GAIA FEAST

Restaurant & Sustainable Living Information Center Opens Soon at the Findlay Market!

Gaia Foundation is in the process of getting a Health Department License and negotiating with the Findlay Market Association to rent a space on Elder Street (Northern Part of the Findlay Market)  to run a restaurant with healthy foods and serve as an Information Center for promoting ideas of sustainable development.

To decrease our impact on Planet Earth, we must eat low on the food chain, thus diminishing the need for too much agricultural land.  Meat production needs much more surface and water and also pollutes the environment.   That currently used in the USA is the most damaging since it is essentially an industrial mass production in the feedlots and gigantic chicken-coops, which necessitates heavy and routine uses of antibiotics and growth hormones to prevent diseases and to expedite the growth, thus making more profit for the producer.

Therefore, our Gaia Feast (which will be located next to Mr. Madison's) will offer non-animal derived foods, purchased locally from the Findley Market merchants, mostly organic, with a few exceptions.  For breakfast, in addition to healthy cereals and grain items, we will offer organic eggs. Also, we will offer chicken soup (made from Amish free-range organic chickens) with matzo balls, sometimes called "Jewish penicillin" (some studies indicate that it does promote mucus flow and thus speeds up the healing).

The major items on the menu will be hot and cold soups, salads, and Mediterranean and Indian foods such as hummus, tabouli, spaghetti, vegetarian curries, chutneys, coleslaw etc...  Also, we will make fresh "smoothie" drinks made by blending a variety of ripe fruits and sometimes vegetables.  Those are out of this world, as many of my friends will attest.

The Gaia Feast will also sell chocolates and specialty food items imported from Croatia, Nepal, India and Bangladesh....countries of origin and interest of the Gaia Foundation officers.

Since we follow the principle:  DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN WHERE YOU ARE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, we are looking for donations of items that you may not need:

Plates, silverware, cloth napkins, a microwave oven, hotplates, tables and chairs, plants (small and large).

These items need not be in perfect condition since we will paint them, give them new life and use them creatively in our new enterprise, Gaia Feast Restaurant and Sustainable Living Information Center.

Findlay Market is located at 1801 Race Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
